Behind the art

In the lettering course, we were given a challenge for our final project: to come up with our own unique task. I was eager to try something different, so I set my sights on creating a pattern with lettering that I could actually use. Since I have a fondness for phrases that carry meaning and a touch of humor, I decided to design some wrapping paper.

I brainstormed and came up with a catchy phrase “May cause happiness”, “Unwrap at your own risk” and “Caution” envisioning it as part of pattern as a ribbon. With this idea in mind, I sketched out my plan, feeling quite proud of my creativity. However, when I shared my concept with my teacher, she saw even more potential in it. "Why not make a separate ribbon out of this?" she suggested.

Her words sparked a new wave of inspiration in me. I took her advice to heart and began developing the idea further. I worked diligently, refining my design until it was just right.

Seeing the finished product, a beautiful ribbon adorned with meaningful, humorous lettering, I felt a surge of accomplishment. My simple idea had grown into something tangible and special, all thanks to a nudge in the right direction from my teacher. Now, my ribbon is out in the world, ready to bring a smile to anyone who uses it.

Ribbon reads “Caution”—because let’s face it, some gifts are dangerously delightful. Together, the paper and ribbons create a gift-giving experience that’s not just about the present inside but about the joy (and giggles) that come with unwrapping it.
